PURPOSE: New biologically compatible polymer derivatives and a conjugate of protein-polymers or peptide-polymers obtained by bond of the biologically compatible polymer derivatives with protein or peptide having a biological activity are provided, which can maximize solubility of protein or peptide and in vivo stability as well as maintaining the activity of protein or peptide in an optimum state by minimizing the number of polymers bonding to protein or peptide and reducing steric hindrance on the activated portion of protein. CONSTITUTION: These biologically compatible polymer derivatives contain a branched polymer of a long-chain structure having a terminal functional group bonding to protein or peptide having biological activity and have a molecular weight of 200 to 100,000. The conjugate of protein-polymers or peptide-polymers is obtained by reaction of protein or peptide with biologically compatible polymer derivatives in a mole ratio of about 1:1 to 1:100.
