PURPOSE: A voice mail system based on a web and a method for transmitting/receiving a voice file is provided to increase a transmitting speed of a voice file appended to a mail and to put a transmission/receipt of a voice file to practical use easily by transmitting a voice compressed by a wavelet signal compression and to remove an operation for downloading an additional plug-in program on a web browser easily by using a Java applet. CONSTITUTION: One client(1) who is a sender transmits a mail and a file appended thereof to a web mail server(2). A voice mail server(3) checks whether the appended file is a voice file and converts the file and stores in a database(4). The other client(1a) who is a recipient receives the mail and the appended file stored in the database(4) and outputs the mail and the file to a monitor and a speaker. The other client(1a) is connected to the web mail server(2) and the voice mail server(3). The other client(1a) may transmit a mail to the client(1) through the web mail server(2). The clients(1,1a) connect to a server computer in a dispersing computing method and request a data process to the server computer. The voice mail server(3) is connected between the web mail server(2) and the database(4) and connected to the clients(1,1a).
