A leg support for a skier includes an upper member 1 which rests against the skier's thigh, and is attached to the skier by straps 23, 24. The support is hinged at 12 to a lower member 3 which rests against the skier's calf, and has attachment 6 which is secured to the skier's boot. A cable 13 is attached at its lower end to the lower member 3, and at its upper end to a cradle 16 that supports a gas strut 19. The piston rod of the gas strut extends towards a bridge member 18. The bridge member has a through hole 21 which can be moved into and out of alignment with the piston rod. When the hole is aligned with the piston rod, the piston rod can move through the hole, so that there is no resistance. This enables the user to walk or sit relatively normally. If the aperture 21 is rotated out of alignment with the piston rod, the piston rod contacts the bridge member when the user bends his or her knees, and the gas strut provides resistance to the bending motion.
