A stepper motor that includes a hybrid magnet rotor of Figure 7, and may also have a generator function. Coil 65 is wrapped around H section yoke 63. Permanent magnets 29 are fixed across the arms of yoke 63. The rotor interacts with stator members 57 when a current is passed through coil 65 to produce a torque that causes the rotor to rotate through 90°. By providing suitable current pulses in coil 63, the rotor is caused to rotate in a stepwise manner. The motor may include a second hybrid magnet rotor used to generate a current as the first rotor rotates.
