PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a valve system of an internal combustion engine free to restrain working sound of a fuel pump by weakening collision of a camshaft and a bearing to drive the fuel pump against each other. SOLUTION: Reaction force Fv to receive from a valve lifter 20c is the maximum as one phase of the two phases on which impact force from the high pressure fuel pump side is generated at the time of an engine low load is a phase with the valve lifter 20c of an exhaust valve as the maximum lift quantity by a valve cam 32 for exhaust. Reaction Fd received from a dammy lifter 6b is the maximum as the other phase is a phase with the dammy lifter 6b as the maximum lift quantity by a dammy cam 33. Consequently, it is possible to sufficiently weaken collision of journals 28a, 28b and the bearing 6d by large impact force Fp received from the side of a lifter 50b of the high pressure fuel pump on either of the phases. Consequently, it is possible to effectively restrain the working sound of the high pressure fuel pump.
