PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inexpensive electronic musical instrument which can be played music with staccatos. SOLUTION: This electronic musical instrument is equipped with a measuring means which measures the time from key depression to key release, a staccato playing detecting means which detects staccato playing when the measured time is shorter than a specific value, and a muting means which mutes a sound being generated in a specific time in response to the key release when the staccato playing detecting means does not detect staccato laying and mutes the sound being generated in a time shorter than the specific time in response to the key release when the staccato playing is detected.
