PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing an aluminum-based composite material by which defective parts in infiltration can be eliminated, and the production cost can be reduced. SOLUTION: In this method for producing an aluminum-based composite material, a porous molding 11, a porous partitioning body 12 and an aluminum alloy 13 are piled in order frow the below in a crucible 15, the inside of a furnace is heated, the porous molding is reduced in an atmosphere of magnesium nitride, and the pressure in the furnace is reduced. The aluminum alloy 13 is dissolved and is collected on the porous partitioning body 12. The dissolved aluminum alloy is pressurized on the upper face of it, is forcedly passed through the porous partitioning body 12 and is infiltrated into the porous molding 11 in an evaculated state. In this way, a prescribed amount of dissolved aluminum alloy can temporarily be collected and continuously be fed, so that defective parts in infiltration can be eliminated. The dissolved aluminum alloy is forcedly flowed, so that defective parts in infiltration can be eliminated. The flow can be controlled by the porous partitioning body, there is no need of providing apparatus, and the production cost can be reduced.
