摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily control the time of self-ignition without requiring a drive which increases in size. SOLUTION: Air or an air-fuel mixture in a combustion chamber 5 is introduced into a mixture injector 17 during the second half of a compression stroke and fuel is also introduced therein from a fuel injector 15. At the mixture injector 17, the high-temperature air or air-fuel mixture is mixed with fuel whereby at least a portion of the fuel is vaporized to form a mixture. After the pressure of the mixture is intensified within the mixture injector 17, the mixture is injected and supplied to a high-temperature air-fuel mixture field having an air-fuel mixture concentration at which self-ignition within the combustion chamber 5 will not occur, with the air-fuel mixture concentration of the mixture being kept higher than that of the air-fuel mixture field.
