<p>Helicobacter pylori can be manipulated at a genetic level to prevent the synthesis of auto-reactive LPS, without destroying the physical integrity or function of the bacterial outer membrane. The bacterium is particularly useful for preparing cellular vaccines which do not induce antibodies which cross-react with self epitopes. Cellular H.pylori vaccines are provided which comprise mutant H.pylori which either does not express LPS or, preferably, expresses a mutant form of LPS.</p> |
