A portable terminal receives the data related to the trunk size of a tree (5) measured using an optical sensor e.g. a laser scanner and/or via mechanical means e.g. a caliper, and displays it on an LCD screen. The measurement values are then transmitted to a computer for tree classification. An independent claim is also included for the tree classification method.
