A method and apparatus are provided optically amplifying an optical signal passed through a backplane of a circuit board assembly (26). The method includes the steps of disposing an optically amplifying waveguide within a structure of the backplane, pumping the optically amplifying waveguide and routing the optical signal through the pumped optically amplifying waveguide. |
