PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enlarge a dynamic range for each reading row without complicating the constitution of a solid state image pickup device. SOLUTION: A solid state image pickup system sequentially reads signal outputs of unit cells Pij of a row in an imaging region from an amplifier solid state image pickup device 10, then detects a mean output level of the unit cell of a row, temporarily stores the signal in a memory 42, sets an integrated time of a photodiode 1 of a unit cell of each row in the imaging region based on a mean output level of the row before one frame, and enlarges the dynamic range for a row unit of the imaging region.
