PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a battery separator which is superior in tensile strength, liquid holding rate, high capacity maintaining rate in self-discharging. SOLUTION: This is a separator for an alkaline battery, which has a thickness not more than 120 μm and is composed of a wet-laid nonwoven fabric containing 1 to 60 wt.% of high strength fiber wherein the tensile strength is not less than 20 g/d. It is preferable that the high strength fiber be selected from a para series aramide fiber, an all aromatic polyester fiber, an ultra high strength polyethylene fiber, a 5-membered heterocyclic high-performance fiber, an ultra high strength polyvinyl alcohol fiber, a high syndiotactic polyvinyl alcohol fiber of a high degree of polymerization, and a high strength polypropylene fiber. |
