SOLUTION: If an electric damping mode is detected, a contactor is switched to reverse the direction of a field current If and a chopper is controlled with a preset duty corresponding to this electric damping mode. Meanwhile, when an armature current Ia is under the minimum preset value Iref1 even after the preset check time Tch has passed due to the influence of residual magnetic flux depending on the hysteresis characteristic of a magnetic circuit of motor, the duty is increased only for the predetermined period and such operation is repeated for every check time Tch. On the other hand, when an armature current Ia exceeds the maximum preset value Iref2, the duty is switched to that of the predetermined damping mode at that time to realize electric damping.
