PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the fail deciding accuracy by preventing hunting regarding fail safe. SOLUTION: A vehicle surrounding monitoring device for executing the fail safe when a state in which a fail of a photographed image is decided is continued for a predetermined period releases the fail decision when the state of the image has releasing conditions of the fail safe within a predetermined time from a time point of incorporating an intervening conditions of the fail safe in the state of the image. As the releasing conditions of the fail safe, parameters different from a parameter group of the intervening conditions of the fail safe are used.
