Marker strips, for insertion into stacks of paper to mark off reams, comprise strips of glassine paper coated on part of one side with a water-based, cold water-soluble adhesive that has wet tack but no measurable dry tack. Marker strips, for marking off reams in continuously produced stacks of paper by inserting the strips, are coated with adhesive on part of one side and folded, into the stacks so that the coated part lies between adjacent sheets of paper and the uncoated part lies outside the stack, comprise strips of glassine paper that have a weight of 70 /! 5 g/m<2>, a width of 15-25 mm and a length of 50-100 mm and are coated on one side over 1/3-1/10 of their length with 10-30 g/m<2> of a water-based, cold water-soluble adhesive that has wet tack but no measurable dry tack, which is activated before or during insertion of the marker strips.
