A fuel cell has a frost-protected cooling circuit which employs one or more greater than 3 carbon paraffins as coolant. Preferred Features: The coolant comprises a mixture of 10-20 carbon isoparaffins with different branch structures or a pure paraffinic isomer mixture with a pour point of below -40 deg C and a boiling start of above 250 deg C.
