PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the position adjustment device and position fixing method of a light modulation device, by which the position of a liquid crystal panel can be maintained in a more highly accurate state. SOLUTION: This device is provided with a position-adjusting mechanism body 312, a holding device 317 provided on the position-adjusting mechanism body 312 for holding the liquid crystal panels 141G, 141R and 141B, a displacement detector 318 for detecting displacement generated at the holding device 317 at adhering and fixing of the liquid crystal panels 141G, 141R and 141B, held by the holding device 317 to a prism 150 with an adhesive material and a fine adjustment device 319 for finely adjusting the position of the holding device 317 so as to restore the liquid crystal panels 141G, 141R and 141B to the positions prior to the displacement, based on a result detected in the displacement detector 318. Even when the liquid crystal panels 141G, 141R and 141B are displaced by the hardening and contraction of the adhesive material, the displacement is offset by the displacement detector 318 and the fine adjustment device 319.
