PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a rigid arm from appearing in a gap between an outer cover for covering the rigid arm and another outer cover in the case of enlarging a unit interval between a 1st unit and a 2nd unit, and to attain a good appearance. SOLUTION: The printer unit (1st unit) 10 is connected to the scanner unit (2nd unit) 20 by the rigid arm so that the distance between the units can be varied. The rigid arm is covered by the outer covers 26 and 27. In the case of additionally arranging a tray for a discharged paper 36 in response to the request of a user, the interval between the units is enlarged, and then, an additional unit for the tray for the discharged paper 35 is held between the units 10 and 20. In this case, a gap between the outer covers 26 and 27 and another outer cover 12 is eliminated by using an auxiliary outer cover 30 which is arranged so that it may freely slide with reference to the outer covers 27 and 27 for the rigid arm, or which is attached around the rigid arm after enlarging the interval between the units.
