摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vehicle speed control device capable of improving the traveling stability and the sense of security of a driver without depending on a preceding vehicle by suppressing the vehicle speed to be low irrespective of the vehicle speed of the preceding vehicle when traveling on a road of the low coefficient of friction. SOLUTION: This vehicle speed control device comprising a vehicle speed setting means for setting the preset vehicle speed by the operation of the driver and a vehicle speed controlling means for controlling the vehicle speed so that the vehicle-to-vehicle distance is agreed with the target value set based on at least the one's own vehicle speed while tracking the preceding vehicle or the vehicle speed is controlled so that the one's own vehicle speed is agreed with the vehicle speed preset by the vehicle speed setting means while not tracking the preceding vehicle, further comprises a road surface coefficient of friction detecting means for obtaining the coefficient of friction of the road surface, and an upper limit vehicle speed setting means which sets the upper limit value of the vehicle speed to be low when controlling the vehicle speed by the vehicle speed controlling means as the coefficient of friction of the road surface is smaller according to the coefficient of friction of the road surface detected by the road surface coefficient of friction detecting means.
