PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To introduce a simple UV shielding structure with excellent reliability into a plasma addressed display device. SOLUTION: The method for manufacturing a plasma addressed display device comprises: an electrode forming process to form rows of discharge electrodes 9 on one substrate 8; a plasma cell assembling process to join the substrate 8 to one face of an intermediate plate 3 via a specified gap and introducing a dischargeable gas into the gap to assemble a plasma cell 2; and a display cell assembling process to join the other substrate 4 on which signal electrode 5 are previously formed in columns to the other face of the intermediate plate 3 via a specified gap and disposing an electro-optic material 7 in the gap to assemble the display cell. The electrode forming process includes processing to deposit a UV absorbing substance 32 which can absorb UV rays generated by the discharge of the gas on the discharge electrode 9. Then the cell is aged, a voltage is applied on the discharge electrodes 9 to cause discharge in the gas to splash the UV absorbing material 32 by the generated charged particles so as to form a UV shielding film 33 which can shield UV rays on one surface of the intermediate plate 3.
