PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a paved surface having excellent finishing by the optimum degree of compaction by automatically controlling the operation of a compaction device for a paving machine. SOLUTION: The compaction controller 1 for the paving machine constituted in such a manner that a paving-speed detecting means 3 is installed to the paving machine while an operation control means 6 for the compaction device composed of an arithmetic device 4 and an electromagnetic proportional flow control valve 5 is mounted by connection to the detecting means 3, the quantity of a working fluid operated fed from a hydraulic pump 8 to a hydraulic motor 7 is controlled by the control means 6 on the basis of the result of the detection of the detecting means 3 and operation such as the number of revolution, frequency or the like of the compaction device is controlled by controlling the quantity of the fluid fed to the hydraulic motor 7 in the paving machine with the compaction device is provided.
