MIXTURE OF AROMATIC VINYL RESIN WITH POLYPHENYLENE ETHER (PPO) IMPROVED IN IMPACT RESISTANCE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rigid PPO resin composed of PPO and an aromatic vinyl resin, which has an improved impact resistance, and comprises (A) 99-20 wt.% mixture of PPO with an aromatic vinyl resin and (B) 1-80 wt.% impact modifier consisting of at least one S-B-M copolymer. SOLUTION: The impact modifier is characterized in that (1) each block is covalently bonded to other blocks; (2) the M block comprises MMA and optionally a monomer copolymerizable therewith and at least 50 wt.% of the block comprises MMA; (3) the B block is incompatible with both resin (A) and the M block and has a glass transition point Tg higher than the use temperature of the rigid material; (4). The S block is incompatible with both the B block and the M block and has a Tg or a melting point mp higher than the Tg of the B block; and (5) the S block is compatible with resin (A).
