POLYCYCLIC AROMATIC COMPOUND DECOMPOSING MICROBIAL CONSORTHIA

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a microbial consorthia capable of rapidly decomposing and removing a toxic polycyclic aromatic compound such as a benzpyrene from an environment, and to provide a method for cleaning a polluted environment using the consorthia. SOLUTION: This microbial consorthia has a 16S rRNA gene represented by a base sequence which is >=95% homologous to a specific base sequence derived from an unknown microorganism and has the ability to degrade the polycyclic aromatic compound. The method for cleaning the environment polluted with the polycyclic aromatic compound uses the microbial consorthia.
