<p>The invention refers to a procedure and device to reduce engine exhaust emissions by activating a cold discharge inside the exhaust pipe, near the exhaust manifolds. The appearance by effect Corona of the free negative charges leads to exhaust gases ionization that will generate both the reaction of the incomplete oxidized hydrocarbons with the oxygen in the exhausted gases and the forming of ozone. Being unstable, the ozone will continue the process of oxidizing the hydrocarbons till their going out in the atmosphere. The device to apply the procedure according to the invention consists of a central electrode (1) that generates negative charges by effect Corona, connected to the negative borne of a pulsed high voltage power supply (4) and an insulator (3) that isolates a second electrode which is the exhausting pipe (2) itself.</p> |
