An apparatus (10) comprises first (14) and second (16) side pieces hingedly connected to form a first (20) and second (21) cavities, a lid (12), and front piece (18) from a third cavity (22) with the first (14) and second (16) side pieces. A handle (34) and biasing device (36) are positioned outside the first cavity (20), a rotating blocking device (28) rotated by the handle (34) and the biasing device (36), such that handle (34) and rotating block device (28) are returned to a stationary position by the biasing device (36). A resilient sealing device (30, 30') interacting with the rotating blocking device (28) close a first opening (24) between the first (20) and second (21) cavities and a swinging blocking device (32) closes a second opening (26) between the first (20) and third (22) cavities. In another embodiment, the closing device (100) includes a holding device (102) with side walls (104) and a base (106). The closing device (100) can be used to hold a receptacle while it is being filled and to catch any spillover.
