PURPOSE: An LCD and a driving method thereof are provided to prevent degradation of an LCD by displaying arbitrary information to a user when electric power is applied to the LCD and a signal is not applied to the LCD. CONSTITUTION: A timing controller is formed with a control signal generation portion(30), a data signal generation portion(32), and a signal decision portion(28). The control signal generation portion(30) receives a horizontal synchronous signal, a vertical synchronous signal, and a timing synchronous signal from an interface portion and generates control signals for supplying a data driver and a gate driver. The data signal generation portion(32) received R, G, and B data from the interface portion and supplies aligned R, G, and B data to the data driver. The signal decision portion(28) is used for monitoring a supplying state of the control signals received from the interface portion. An oscillator(26) supplies a pre-synchronous signal of a predetermined frequency to the signal decision portion(28).
