BIFURCATED POSITIVE-NEUTRAL-POSITION COLLAR FOR IN-LINE SHIFT TRANSMISSION

An improved neutral position collar having a positive neutral position retaining detent for providing a definite "feel" to the neutral position as the transmission is shifted in either of the two possible directions. The neutral position collar is bifurcated to improve the manufacturability and the cost of the neutral position collar. The bifurcation and the attendant enhanced manufacturability improve the costs of using the neutral position collar as a variable length spacer which adapts selectable combinations of forward and reverse gears to a standard length shaft and a standard size transmission/transaxle housing.
