PURPOSE: A mobile terminal having a message arrival notification function and a message arrival notification thereby are provided to enable a subscriber to confirm the category of a received message without a special operation by offering icons to identify message categories respectively. CONSTITUTION: If a message is received(S10), a control part checks the category of the received message(S20). The control part checks whether the received message is a voice message(S30). In case that the received message is a voice message, the control part displays the first icon(S35). If the received message is a character message(S40), the control part displays the second icon(S45). If the received message is an information message(S50), the control part displays the third icon(S55). If the received message is a video message(S60), the control part displays the fourth icon(S65). If the received message is a moving picture message(S70), the control part displays the fifth icon(S75).
