MAGNETIC HEAD TRACKING CONTROL METHOD AND MAGNETIC RECORDING MEDIUM USED FOR THE SAME

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic head tracking control method which allows good recording and reproducing of information even if many optical recessed parts for tracking are disposed. SOLUTION: The magnetic head is so arranged as to face the magnetic layer of the magnetic recording medium which is formed with a substrate consisting of a nonmagnetic material, a magnetic layer on the one surface of the substrate and a layer to be provided with the optical recessed parts for tracking on the other surface and is provided with the optical recessed parts for tracking extending in the traveling direction of the magnetic head and plane parts disposed between the optical recessed parts for tracking and the optical recessed parts for tracking adjacent thereto and having no recessed parts on the layer to be provided with the optical recessed parts for tracking described above. An optical detector having a light emitting element and light receiving element is arranged to face the layer provided with the optical recessed parts for tracking. The optical recessed parts for tracking and the plane parts are irradiated with the light from the light emitting element and the reflected light thereof is received. The output signal of the light receiving element is inputted to a head drive control section and the tracking of the magnetic head facing the magnetic layer described above is controlled in accordance with the control signal of this light receiving element.
