PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system interface facilitating data transfer in a data storage system and to provide the operation method. SOLUTION: The system interface includes a plurality of first directors, a plurality of second directors, a data transfer part and a message network. The data transfer part includes a cache memory. The cache memory is connected to a plurality of first and second directors. The message network operates independent of the data transfer part and the network is connected to a plurality of first directors and a plurality of second directors. The first and second directors control data transfer between the first and second directors in response to a response to a message passing through the first directors and the second directors through the message network and facilitate data transfer between the first directors and the second directors.
