摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To form the objective rust preventive layer and lubricant layer having an accurate and uniform specified film thickness and to make obtianable the objective magnetic recording medium by applying each coating material while carrying out real-time measurement of the coating thickness in the process of manufacturing the magnetic recording medium. SOLUTION: In the method for manufacturing the magnetic recording medium by applying a coating material on a nonmagnetic supporting body 1 on which the magnetic film 2 is formed, the coating material is applied while the film thickness of the coating film just after application is measured and the coating amount of the material is controlled based on the measurement information of the film thickness. The coating film is measured by irradiating the coating film with light in a specified wavelength range and spectrally analyzing the interferential waves of the reflected light from the coating film surface and the reflected light passing through the coating film and reflected on the back face of the film to detect the spectral reflectance or spectral transmittance to obtain the spectral information, and determining the peak wavelength of the spectral information appearing in a specified wavelength range of the spectrum to calculate the film thickness of the coating film. Then, the coating amount is controlled based on the measurement of the film thickness and the coating material is applied to a specified film thickness.
