PURPOSE: A VA-FFS LCD(Vertical Aligned Fringe Field Switching mode Liquid Crystal Display) is provided to obtain high transmissivity, wide viewing angle and fast response time by including electrodes on an upper plate of a VA-FFS LCD and adopting the structure of forming an electric field with the electrodes. CONSTITUTION: A lower substrate(30X) of a VA-FFS LCD consists of a common electrode(30), a common electrode line(30c) for feeding power to the common electrode, a pixel electrode(32) of comb pattern type, a TFT(Thin Film Transistor,34) for driving the pixel electrode, a gate bus line(36) for feeding power to a channel(34g) of the TFT, and a data bus line(38) for feeding power to a source(34s) of the TFT. The other electrode of drain(34d) of the TFT is connected to the pixel electrode to drive the LCD. An upper substrate(30Y) includes an auxiliary electrode having the same level of electric potential as the common electrode of the lower substrate. The auxiliary electrode forms an electric field with the pixel electrode. The auxiliary electrode is formed by ITO(Indium Tin Oxide). An LC layer is used with LC containing about 1% of dopant to obtain a chiral pitch of 70-100 micrometers. The chiral pitch is a cycle of twist, and the dopant is an additive for moving LC easily when an LCD is powered on. Each polarizer adhered to the lower and upper substrates have electrode angles of 45 and 135 degrees. |
