The connection method has a connection request signalisation transmitted from a subscriber station (MS) to a base station (BS,RNC), together with an identification of the subscriber station mobile radio standard via a physical random access channel (PRACHx), with the base station signalling the establishment of the required connection back to the subscriber station using the identified standard. An Independent claim for a base station for a mobile radio system is also included.
