PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for making the catalytic activity of a reforming catalyst recover by using a hydrogen producing apparatus and improving the oxidation condition of a reforming catalyst metal oxide. SOLUTION: The hydrogen producing apparatus is provided with a reforming section having a reforming catalyst body including a metal oxide and a noble metal, and a gaseous hydrogen supplying section for supplying the gaseous hydrogen including at least carbon monoxide and steam as sub components to the reforming section. The method for producing hydrogen is characterized in that in the above apparatus, the reforming catalyst body is made to be in an oxidation atmosphere after heated at a temperature of 200-700 deg.C, or the catalyst body is heated at the above temperature in the oxidation atmosphere.
