PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance durability of a foot roll by enhancing resistance against corrosion and abrasion of the surface condition of the foot roll surface on which a large thermal load is imposed at an initial stage of solidification right under a mold of a continuous casting device of steel for eliminating generation of unevenness on the roll surface and abrasion for a long period of time. SOLUTION: A foot roll 1 for continuous casting comprises a overlaid layer 8 of from 2.3 mm to 3.3 mm thick cobalt based alloy by overlaying on the surface of a base material 7 or the foot roll core material made of stainless steel.
