PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a bar code reader which is capable of reading a bar code provided at a varying position under a simple construction. SOLUTION: The bar code reader 1 has a slit 4 through which postal mattes P1 and P2 are inserted. When the postal matter P1 having the bar code C1 provided at a position close to the lower end side of the postal matter is processed, an adapter 10 is mounted inside the slit 4 and then the postal matter P1 is inserted into the slit 4. On the other hand, when the postal matter P2 having a bar code C2 provided at a position comparatively far from the lower end side of the postal matter is processed, the postal matter P2 is inserted into the slit 4 without mounting the adapter 10 inside the slit 4. Thus it is possible to read the bar codes C1 and C2 without changing the construction of the device regardless of the height of the imparted bar code position. |
