PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To resolve a problem that a conventional file having a handle type lock mechanism is sure in locking, however, the releasing operation of the locking is troublesome. SOLUTION: The loose-leaf file is provided with a slender base plate, a shaft attached to one side of the base plate turnably, a plurality of filing rings having base end units supported by the shaft with a predetermined interval and free ends contacted with or separated from the other side of the base plate, springs for energizing the file rings toward the opening direction of the same at all times and a locking mechanism for locking the filing rings under the closed condition of the same. The locking mechanism is constituted of a movable lever formed along with the bottom surface of the base plate, a pivotal pin for attaching the lever to the base plate pivotally, retaining pawls formed on the lever so as to be capable of engaging with and releasing from the retaining unit provided on the free end of one part of the lever, an elastic unit for energizing the lever into the retaining direction of the retaining unit and the retaining pawl at all times and a finger hooking unit provided at one end of the base plate to move the lever toward the releasing direction of the retaining pawl from the retaining unit.
