PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for monitoring the state of subscriber lines in a transmission equipment are provided to rapidly monitor the state of subscriber lines and to raise the service quality of communication equipments by monitoring the state of subscriber lines, recording and updating it in a memory, monitoring the line state recorded in the memory in a high speed, and outputting it to an LE(Local Exchange). CONSTITUTION: If the update task of an update part and the monitoring task of a monitoring and transmitting part are activated(S10,S20), the update task sequentially monitors the subscriber lines connected to a line connection part, recognizes the state of the subscriber lines, records this recognized information in a memory, and continuously updates it(S30). The monitoring task monitors the subscriber lines by reading the latest subscriber line state information updated and recorded in the memory(S40), converts monitored information in a V5.2 protocol interface format, and sends it to an LE(S50).
