The safety barrier has a gate covering an opening formed by two uprights (132) and a lower cross-member fixed between two walls, the gate being hinged to one of the uprights and connected to the other when closed by a lock (300). The lock has a handle (310) with a pivot (322) at one end for a roller (320) engaging with the upright (132) or a wedge on a wall in place of the upright. The handle turns about a second pivot (332) on a sleeve (330) fastened to the gate and equipped with a locking member (340) in the form of spring-loaded catches.
