A pair of calender rollers are placed before, in a direction of travel of a paper web or paper sheets to a first print unit in a printing device. The calendering rollers improve the quality of the paper web or sheets by rolling particles adhering to the web or sheets into the web or sheets. A paper web tensioning device can be placed between the calendering rollers and the first print unit.
