PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus and a method of inspecting an electronic component mounting film carrier tape, which can early detect defective electronic component mounting parts of the tape, before inspecting all the mounting parts in the quality inspection thereof about electric wire breakage, short circuiting or lack of leads at each electronic component mounting part as well as defective patterns, such as protrusions on the carrier tape. SOLUTION: An electronic component mounting film carrier tape is carried for inspecting electronic component mounting parts, in such a manner that (1) initial pitches x0 and the initial pitches less a fixed shift valueαare repeated alternately, (2) the initial pitches x0 and these initial pitches plus a fixed shift valueαare repeated alternately, and (3) the initial pitches x0, these initial pitches less a fixed shift valueαand these initial pitches plus a fixed valueαare repeated alternately, or that (3) the initial pitches x0 and these initial pitches less a fixed valueαand these initial pitches plus a fixed valueαare repeated alternately.
