PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a submarine repeating system, in which the wavelength characteristics can be compensated relatively accurately through a simple arrangement, without requiring a wavelength characteristics detector 4b. SOLUTION: Each repeater 13 detects the excitation light intensity and the incoming/outgoing light intensity, and a ground unit 11 estimates the operating state wavelength characteristics of each repeater 13, depending on the theoretical wavelength characteristics of each repeater 13, and detected excitation light intensity and incoming/outgoing light intensity. A gain equalizer 14 which regulates and determine regulation value and compensate for the distortion of the wavelength characteristics of a wavelength multiplexed signal at the gain equalizer 14, depending on the regulation value, is provided. |
