PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a spectrophotometer which can shorten an analysis time by outputting signals of a sufficiently large intensity. SOLUTION: A light emitted from a light source 1 is turned to be monochromic by a monochrometer 2 and reaches a rotatable sector mirror 21 having a chopper function as well. The sector mirror 21 is rotated by a motor 4 and the number of revolution of the motor 4 can be controlled by a controller 5. The monochromic light from the monochrometer 2 is alternately divided to a sample cell 6 or a reference cell 7 via a mirror 8 by the rotation of the sector mirror 21. At the same time, the light is shielded so as to measure a dark. In a wavelength range where a PMT 11 having a high response speed is used as a detector, the motor 14 rotates at a high speed, so that a wavelength scanning time is shortened. In a wavelength range where a PbS 12 having a low response speed is used as the detector, the motor 4 rotates at a low speed to obtain the sufficiently large signal intensity. The motor 4 is controlled in this manner.
