PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the air-fuel ratio detecting accuracy. SOLUTION: Impedance of a nernst part of a wide area type air-fuel ratio sensor is measured in the predetermined operating condition for stopping the air-fuel ratio feedback control (S1-S7), and the measurement value is compared with a theoretical value in the same operating condition so as to compute a correction factor (k) of the air-fuel ratio detection value (S8, S9). The air-fuel ratio feedback control is carried out by using the air-fuel ratio detection value corrected on the basis of the correction factor (k) (S10-S13).
