PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To set easily control conditions with respect to an elevation and an elongated pipeline into a control mode setting device for a combustion instrument. SOLUTION: The control mode setting device is constituted of a central control unit 9, having a plurality of control conditions such as combustion air, fuel or the like in accordance with the elevation and the elongated pipeline, a memory means 16, selecting one of a plurality of control conditions of the central control unit 9 to write the same into a memory means 16 as a mode selecting information, setting switches 6, 7, provided in the control unit 1, and a power supply switch 2. The control conditions in accordance with the elevation and the elongated pipeline are set into a mode setting condition, capable of being set at one time, by the specified operation of the setting switches 6, 7 while the release of the mode setting condition and the setting of control conditions based on mode selecting information can be effected by the ON operation of the power supply switch 2.
