PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a functionally gradient material, which is advantageous in respect that the degree of freedom of selection of a polymerizable monomer and a penetrant component (other monomer) to be diffused into the gel matrix are high, that the diffusion of the penetrant component into the gel matrix is rapid, that the control of the concentration gradient of the penetrant component is easy, and that the phase separation of the polymer is suppressed by the network structure of the stereocomplex to enable uniform mixing molecules. SOLUTION: The functionally gradient material is produced by diffusing a penetrant component comprising a monomer, etc., into a stereocomplex gel comprising an isotactic polymethyl methacrylate (Iso-PMMA) and a syndiotactic polymethyl methacrylate (Syn-PMMA) in the presence of a polymerizable monomer other than the above monomer and polymerizing the polymerizable monomer.
