PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To positively prevent the collision of a vehicle when started. SOLUTION: The starting setup of the vehicle is detected from a speed detected by a speed sensor 13, a brake switch 14 and a gear switch 15, the presence or not of footing operation of a brake pedal and the shift position of a transmission. When the starting setup is detected, image data for displaying an image picked up by right and left image pickup devices 1, 12 is input to a control computer 20, where the future position of a proximate object is predicted in accordance with the image data. The future position of the vehicle is also predicted from a signal from a direction indicating switch 16. The collision of the vehicle with the object is predicted according to both predicted positions. When the actual start of the vehicle base on the cancelled footing operation of the brake pedal is detected fork the detected signal from the brake switch 14, if the collision of the vehicle is predicted, warning is given to a drive or the start of the vehicle is prohibited.
