PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for controlling the loop depth of a steel sheet by which the lowering of precision of a loop-depth sensor is prevented and the loop depth is controlled with high precision. SOLUTION: The motor speed of the rollers 14b-14d and 16 arranged between a pickling tank 12 and a loop pit 20 or the motor torque of the rollers 14b-14d and 16 is controlled according to the tension in the loop pit 20 estimated from the measured loop depth in the pit 20 and the target tension in the pickling tank estimated from the target loop depth in the pickling tank 12 so that the loop depth in the tank 12 is controlled to its target value.
