PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a mold for molding an optical element, of which the optical surface being a transfer surface for forming the optical surface of the optical element is subjected to cutting processing with high accuracy and hardly corroded or dragged even if the optical element is repeatedly molded to show excellent durability and which can inexpensively mold the optical element having high accuracy and optical capacity in large quentities, and the optical element molded using this mold. SOLUTION: The mold for molding the optical element is characterized by that a coating layer, wherein phosphorus content is 1-15 wt.% and copper content is 10-70 wt.% and the primary component of the balance is nickel, is formed on a mold base material and has a surface formed by subjecting the surface of the coating layer to cutting processing.
